  • THE RULES OF GIVING THE CHILD THE SURNAME

  • If the child's parents are married to each other then child's name is given in accordance with the marriage certificate, depending on the content of the statement made by the spouses on the day of their marriage. It can be:

    - the mother's surname,

    - the father's surname or

    - the join surname that combines the last names of the parents.

     

    If parents are not married to each other the surname of the father or the mother is given to the child. In this cas the child cannot bear a double-barreled surname constituing a combination of the last names of the parents.

     

    If the paternity is not established (the father's name does not appear on child's birth certificate) the chid bears the last name of the mother.
